In-Network Optum Rehab Center in Massachusetts

The costs of treatment for addiction recovery and co-occurring disorders can often be a barrier, not to mention the length of time to rewire the brain. That is why applying Optum health insurance benefits can make treatment possible. At East Coast Recovery, we work with Optum to give those in need flexible day and partial day treatment programs.

The cost of treatment should never be the reason someone delays getting help for a substance use disorder. If you or a loved one is covered by Optum—whether through an employer-sponsored commercial plan or a state Medicaid plan administered through Optum Behavioral Health—you may already have meaningful coverage for addiction care.

Finding rehabs that take Optum can feel overwhelming, but East Coast Recovery makes it simple. We’re proud to be an in-network provider with Optum commercial and Optum Medicaid, which means lower out-of-pocket costs, less paperwork, and a faster path to the personalized outpatient care you deserve. Our Cohasset, Massachusetts campus offers Day Treatment (PHP), Partial Day Treatment (Partial Day Treatment Program), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and aftercare planning—all designed to meet you wherever you are in your recovery journey.

How Optum Insurance Can Support Your Recovery

Understanding how your insurance works is one of the most important steps in choosing the right level of care. Substance use disorders are recognized medical conditions, and under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, Optum plans are required to cover addiction treatment at parity with other medical conditions. Using your Optum benefits to pay for rehab comes with real advantages:

  • More treatment options. In-network coverage opens the door to higher-quality, specialized programs that might otherwise be out of reach if you were paying out-of-pocket.
  • Better continuity of care. Recovery isn’t a fixed timeline. Insurance coverage helps ensure you can stay in treatment as long as clinically necessary—not just as long as your savings hold out.
  • Less financial stress. Addiction already creates enough strain. Letting Optum cover a significant portion of treatment frees you to focus on what actually matters: healing.
  • Coordinated behavioral health support. Because Optum specializes in mental health and substance use, claims, prior authorizations, and care coordination tend to move more efficiently than under general medical coverage.

What’s Included in Optum Addiction Treatment Coverage?

Coverage details vary based on your specific plan, group number, and state, but most Optum policies—commercial and Medicaid alike—cover a meaningful portion of evidence-based outpatient addiction treatment. Services that are commonly covered through Optum addiction treatment coverage include:

How to Check Your Optum Benefits

There are a few simple ways to confirm what your Optum policy covers:

  1. Call the Member Services number on the back of your Optum or UnitedHealthcare ID card and ask specifically about behavioral health and substance use disorder benefits.
  2. Log in to liveandworkwell.com (for commercial and EAP members) or your state Medicaid portal to review your behavioral health benefits.
  3. Let East Coast Recovery do the legwork for you. Our admissions team will verify your insurance for free and walk you through exactly what’s covered, what your estimated out-of-pocket costs may be, and what steps come next.

There’s no obligation, no pressure, and no cost to verify.

Starting Outpatient Rehab with Optum Insurance

At East Coast Recovery we work with Optum commercial health insurance policies so our clients can reduce out-of-pocket costs on our outpatient drug and alcohol rehab programs. Optum insurance provides assistance with addiction treatment and dual diagnosis mental health programs, helping to reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket expenses. Based in Cohasset, we work with insurers like Optum so that clients can connect with personalized treatment plans using flexible outpatient programs.

Levels of Care Covered by Optum

For clients who are looking to start outpatient programs, Optum health insurance generally applies coverage to at least part of our distinct day and partial day programs. Each level of care is designed to meet clients where they are and their recovery journey, varying in terms of support and time commitment.

However, each level of care is also designed to work with clients who have other obligations be it professional, personal, or academic obligations, making it possible to get care while balancing other responsibilities and applying health insurance benefits to the cost.

How Much Optum Covers

Optum health insurance plans will vary in terms of what they cover and for how long they cover different therapies.

There are several different plans including employer-sponsored Optum PPO plans which usually have lower deductibles as well as HSA plans which usually have higher deductibles.

The deductible is the amount that clients are responsible for covering each year before Insurance kicks in to cover the remainder. This is an amount that is built on all out of pocket expenses for the year, not just the costs of our outpatient programs.

Each policy is different and in general those who have a higher premium that they pay each month will have a lower deductible that they have to meet each year and vice versa.

There might also be a coinsurance transition depending on your plan. With Optum Health insurance, some policies not only have a deductible but they have a coinsurance threshold meaning that after you reach your deductible you are still responsible for paying what is usually a percentage of whatever bills come after.

For example:

If your policy has a $5,000 deductible which you have already paid, but you also have a coinsurance transition that requires you pay 20% of all bills out of pocket, then starting a full day or partial Day program with our facility would mean your insurance benefits would cover 80% of the total cost.

There are also different variations from one policy to the next that have to do with the specificity of your program details.

For example:

If your policy has zero out of pocket costs for things like prescription drugs, you might be required to cover your deductible or a coinsurance transition for the therapy you receive as part of your partial day program with our facility, but any prescription medications you receive for your medication assisted treatment might be covered completely.

Alternatively, you can call our team and we can reach out to your insurance provider on your behalf and help explain what benefits apply to each of our programs.
