What to Expect with East Coast Recovery

If you are searching for drug rehab Lynn based, traveling to our facility instead of local options can bring many benefits.

Transforming Thoughts with Evidence-Based Behavioral Therapies

At East Coast Recovery Center, we utilize evidence-based counseling methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to figure out and reframe psychological roots of addiction.

Our team understands that many people struggling with addiction are often struggling with other underlying conditions. When substance use co-occurs with mental health conditions like depression or anxiety, clients face a cycle of negative thinking and intense emotional distress that encourages relapse.

Our clinicians work to stop that.

With CBT, for example, clients learn to catch, challenge, and change their automatic negative thought patterns. They learn to implement healthy coping mechanisms in their place. Moreover, things like DBT techniques can build robust distress tolerance and emotional regulation skills for clients, ensuring that each person who completes our programs has the skills to effectively manage sudden anxiety spikes or depressive lows without turning to drugs or alcohol.

Fostering Acceptance and Goal-Oriented Accountability

Our team understands that real recovery means a balance between accepting current reality and actively working toward a healthier future. With our dual diagnosis programs and trauma treatment, clients can participate in things like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or Solution-Focused Therapy.

ACT teaches clients how to acknowledge difficult emotions and anxiety symptoms without judgment. By accepting emotions, even difficult ones, for what they are instead of trying to run away from them or change them, clients can reduce the urge to avoid or numb those feelings through relapse.

We pair these traditional therapies with mindfulness through solution-focused techniques that cultivate a highly structured, goal-oriented way of reframing thoughts. Through goal setting and immediate, practical milestones clients who might otherwise by paralyzed by past trauma can instead gain a renewed sense of purpose and self-efficacy. These lessons are integral in our dual diagnosis programs, particularly for overcoming symptoms of anxiety or depression.

Healing the Whole Person Through Experiential Modalities

At East Coast Recovery, we believe that overcoming substance use disorder requires healing the mind and the body concurrently. Clients in our day or partial day programs will not only engage in traditional talk therapies, but restorative, experiential modalities including yoga, guided meditation, breathwork, and outdoor adventure therapy.

These somatic practices are an essential part in treating the whole person, helping to sooth the nervous system, often overstimulated by prolonged anxiety or the physical strains that early sobriety has.

Through our holistic offerings, clients have a chance to reconnect with their bodies in a peaceful environment. These sessions teach clients how to naturally reduce stress, process deep-seated trauma, and build real-world resilience. Our holistic framework transforms treatment from a routine and often incomplete obligation into a comprehensive, life-changing experience.

Getting Here

The best way for clients to get from Lynn, MA to our center in Cohasset is by car. The drive takes about 1 hour to 1 hour and 40 minutes, depending heavily on Boston area traffic.

Getting here by car is best done on US-1 South in Revere from MA-107, then the I-93 South through downtown Boston, the MA-3 South toward Braintree/Cape Cod, and exit 36 for Derby Street toward Hingham.

Alternatively, drivers can take I-95 South / MA-128 South to bypass the immediate city center, routing around the western suburbs. From there they can get onto I-93 North toward Boston, then split off onto MA-3 South at the Braintree Split taking the same exit 36.

There are other options though, like commuter rail and subway.

Clients can board the Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail Line outbound from Lynn Station to North Station in Boston, or take the regional 450 Express Bus from Western Ave to Haymarket. They can also ride the MBTA 426 or 450 bus directly from Lynn down to the Haymarket area in downtown Boston and the transit connections at South Station to switch back to the local MBTA Greenbush Line to reach Cohasset directly.

Why It’s Worth the Commute

With such a long commute it’s not uncommon for people to wonder if it’s really worth the time and money. Clients who have come to our facility from Lynn have found that the travel provides an opportunity to reset, transition away from local triggers, and participate in Specialized Care.

Traveling to Cohasset provides the “physical separation”  that many clients often need to break the cycle of addiction. This distance creates a protective barrier, removing the immediate temptation of familiar street corners or local bars, friends or associates you know can give you a hit when things are stressful.

Clinical research suggests that “environmental enrichment”—which involves new social interactions, physical activities, and a change in scenery—can significantly reduce drug-seeking behavior and prevent relapse. And East Coast Recovery offers exactly that with immediate access to structured recovery programs that include our day and partial day programs with many group and social interactions built into them. Even our dual diagnosis programs provide not only a change of scenery but options for a lot of physical activities.

Finally, Cohasset offers a “beautiful” and “serene” landscape that promotes mental clarity and reduces the stress levels that often double the likelihood of early relapse.
